Civil Claims - Brisbane Supreme Court
In addition to lodging in person over the counter or via mail, from Monday 30 June 2025, solicitors with a Queensland practising certificate will be able to lodge civil claims and supporting documents in the Brisbane Supreme Court through the Queensland Courts and Tribunals Online Services Portal (OSP).
Solicitors will also be able to lodge documents through the OSP for civil claim matters which commenced prior to 30 June 2025.
This service is only available for civil claims in the Brisbane Supreme Court.
Electronic lodgement (eLodgement) capability for all civil originating processes and appeals state-wide, for all court users (including self-represented litigants), will follow in 2026 as part of the new civil case management system release.
Benefits of eLodgement
eLodgement of civil claims in the Brisbane Supreme Court will provide several benefits for solicitors including:
- the ability to lodge a claim and supporting documents, and pay any applicable filing fee, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- saving time and cost by reducing the need to attend the registry
- providing a streamlined process with contact details pre-filled (matching your digital identity details that you will use to log into the OSP)
- email confirmation of your lodgement with a temporary reference number
- the ability to view your lodged materials via the Supreme Court Claims dashboard on the OSP.
Processing timeframes
Standard filing
Consistent with the UCPR, electronically lodged documents should not be considered 'filed' until such time as the registrar records the date of filing on the document and applies the seal of the court. Upon processing, the registry will return the filed documents via email to the lodging party. If the whole of the compliant document is received before 4:30pm, the date of filing will be the date the document is received by the registry. If received after 4:30pm, the date of filling will be the next day the registry is open.
The registry will make every effort to process a lodged document within 24hrs or by the close of the next business day. Any non-compliance with the UCPR will impact turnaround times.
Documents lodged via the OSP but intended for another jurisdiction or court location outside of Brisbane Supreme Court will not be actioned by the Brisbane Supreme Court registry.
Urgent filing
Any urgent matters lodged via the OSP must be followed up with a phone call to the registry.
If there is some urgency attached to a lodgement and you require same day turn around for filing and are within registry business hours (i.e. Monday to Friday, between 8.30am to 4.30pm), you can submit your claim material electronically and phone the registry to make them aware of your timeframes.
After-hours filing
Processes for after-hours filing remain unchanged. Documents lodged electronically after registry business hours will be assessed and filed as at the next day the registry is open.
