Support for victims of crime
Below you’ll find sources of information and support if you or a family member is a victim of crime.
Victim Support Unit
If you are a victim of a crime, a witness to a crime or someone supporting a victim, you can get help from the Victim Support Unit.
This support is provided by a dedicated group of professionally supported volunteers. They are trained to assist you before, during and after the court proceedings.

Victim Coordination Program
Victim Assist Queensland runs the Local Victim Coordination Program. Officers located in Ipswich, Rockhampton and Cairns provide support to people who have been hurt by an act of violence.
They support victims as they go through the criminal justice system and help them to apply for financial assistance.
The program can help if you or your family:
- need to go to court regarding a violent crime and want information about the court process or help understanding legal terms
- want to write a victim impact statement for the court to consider during sentencing
- want to apply for financial assistance to help reimburse or cover the cost of expenses related to your recovery, physically and emotionally, from an act of violence.
