This guide is for solicitors with a Queensland practising certificate who need to lodge Brisbane Supreme Court civil claims using the Queensland Courts and Tribunals Online Services Portal (OSP).

It provides step-by-step instructions for creating a portal profile, preparing and submitting claims, and managing lodgements through your OSP dashboard.

Whether you’re filing a new claim or adding documents to an existing one, this guide helps you navigate the process efficiently.

Getting started

Create your profile

If you do not already have a profile for the Online Services Portal (OSP), you’ll need to create one before lodging a claim.

Follow the step-by-step instructions to set up your profile.

Organisation connection

If your organisation (e.g. law firm) is not yet connected to the OSP, you’ll need to link it before you can lodge claims.

Contact the Client Systems Support Team for help with organisation connection.

Who can lodge/what documents can be lodged through the OSP

Solicitors with a Queensland practising certificate can lodge both initiating and non-initiating documents for claims in the Brisbane Supreme Court only.

The only initiating document this includes is a Claim (Form 2 -UCPR), while non-initiating documents may include affidavits or other supporting documents relating to the claim.

Lodgment process

1. To lodge a new initiating claim

  • Log in to the Online Services Portal (OSP)
  • Click the ‘Supreme Court claims’ card or search ‘civil claims’
  • On the dashboard, click ‘Start new lodgment’.

2. Prepare your documents

  • Ensure all documents are in PDF format and are text-searchable (max size 100Mb).
  • For new claims, ‘Form 2’ will automatically be selected as the first document to upload.

3. Complete the lodgment

Enter the following:

  • practitioner details (or select the practitioner you’re lodging on behalf of)
  • plaintiff, defendant, or third-party details
  • lodgment type (new or existing claim).
Use the progress bar on the left-hand side to navigate through the lodgment steps:

4. Save as draft (optional)

  • Save your progress at any time by clicking ‘Save’ at the bottom of the page.
  • Draft lodgments appear in your dashboard under ‘My lodgments' with a status of ‘Draft’.
  • Drafts are not visible to the registry until submitted.

5. Review and submit

  • On the ‘Review and submit’ page, check for errors.
  • If any fields are incomplete, an error message will list the sections you need to complete.
  • Once ready, click ‘Submit lodgment’.
  • After submission, you cannot make changes but can upload additional documents later.

After submission

Lodgment reference number

After submitting, you’ll receive a temporary lodgment reference number (e.g. REF006543/21).

This number is valid while the registry processes your lodgment.

Court file number

Once the registry files your claim, you will receive an email with your court file number (e.g. BS 1234/56).

This number will also appear in your dashboard.

Notifications from the registry

The nominated contact person will receive email updates, including:

  • confirmation of lodgment
  • requests for further information (requisitions)
  • signed and sealed documents after the claim is filed.

Managing your dashboard

Access your dashboard

Click ‘Supreme Court claims’ in the left-hand menu to view your dashboard.

The dashboard lists all lodgments for your firm in a table.
