Queensland Courts offer a range of programs that helps defendants address drug and alcohol use that is related to offending behaviour.
Drug and alcohol offences
Queensland courts deal with many offences involving drugs and alcohol. Common examples include:
Drug offences: Possessing, supplying, or producing illegal substances.
Drink or drug driving: Driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
Public nuisance: Disorderly or violent behaviour linked to substance use.
Breach of court orders: Breaking probation or parole conditions involving drugs or alcohol.
These offences are prosecuted under Queensland’s strict drug and alcohol laws.
Drug and Alcohol Diversion Programs
Drug and Alcohol Diversion Programs support eligible persons who recognise that drug or alcohol use has contributed to the offences they have been charged with.
There are two types of Drug and Alcohol Diversion Programs available:
- Drug and Alcohol Assessment Referral Program (DAAR): For adults only.
- Illicit Drugs Court Diversion Program (CDP): For both adults and young people.

Court Link
A bail-based program connecting adults to support services for issues including substance use. Court Link helps individuals get the treatment and support they need.

Queensland Drug and Alcohol Court
A court that provides an intensive and targeted response to adult offenders with severe substance use disorder where their use is linked to their offending.. The magistrate can give a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Order where the person completes a two-year program in the community while on a suspended sentence.
