QCase is Queensland’s secure online portal for managing civil matters in the Magistrates Court. It allows users to file, view, and manage cases online.
QCase is available to registered users who wish to commence or defend civil proceedings, represent someone in a civil matter, or make a public access request for civil matters.
No, QCase is the preferred method for managing civil matters, but you can still lodge documents in person or by post if you do not have access to the portal.
Yes, most documents must be prepared beforehand. Some forms, such as claims, include a guided process in QCase that walks you through completing the form. Supporting documents must be in an approved format (e.g. .doc, .pdf, .jpg) and under 100MB.
Documents lodged outside business hours (Mon–Fri, 8.30am–4.30pm) will be processed the next business day and date-stamped accordingly.
If you attach the wrong file or make an error, contact the registry where the document was lodged for advice on next steps. You may need to file amended documents.
No, you are responsible for serving documents to the other party in accordance with the law.
Once processed, sealed copies of your documents will be available to download and print from QCase.
Log in to QCase and view your case. The status of your case and individual documents will be updated in real time.
You’ll receive an email notification once your lodgement is processed. If rejected, the email will include reasons and next steps.
QCase includes an in-built help tool (click the ‘?’ icon) for step-by-step guidance. You can also refer to the QCase portal guide for external stakeholders (PDF, 1.7 MB) or get technical support.
Initially, only you, registry staff, and the court can view your case. Other parties can access the case once they join via QCase. Public access to documents is subject to privacy laws and court orders.
Use the ‘Public access’ tab in QCase to search for cases and request access to documents. Approval is required before access is granted.
Cases commenced before 1 January 2019 may not be fully digitised. You can request access to these cases by completing a search and copy form or contacting the relevant registry.
Firm administration allows legal firms and organisations to manage their users and cases in QCase.
Firm administrators can:
No, businesses must have an individual (e.g. account manager) register using their own Digital ID. This individual can then lodge documents on behalf of the business.
Ensure the document is in an approved format (.doc, .pdf, .jpg, etc), under 100MB, and that all required fields are completed. If the issue persists, contact support.
For older cases (pre-QCase), you may need to request manual access by contacting the registry. Ensure you’re using the correct case number format (e.g. ‘M000123/22’ for migrated cases).
If payment isn’t made within 48 hours of lodging, your lodgement will be rejected.
