The Queensland Courts Public Safety Network (PSN) Guest Wi-Fi service provides free and secure internet for approved court users. This is not a service that is administered by the Department of Justice.
It’s available to legal practitioners, accredited media representatives, and self-represented litigants who require internet at court who don't have sufficient data on their own device or a provider.
The service is not open to the general public. Access requires prior approval and a username and password.
It’s limited to web browsing (http and https) and does not allow secure tunnelling (eg encrypted communication) or corporate network access.
Where Wi-Fi is available
PSN Guest Wi-Fi is available in most Queensland courthouses and tribunal locations.
To check if it’s available at a specific location, contact the court registry.
If you plan to use Wi-Fi during court proceedings, visit the courthouse beforehand to test the connection. Wi-Fi access points vary by location and can be affected by different conditions, so testing on-site is the only way to confirm the service will meet your needs on the day.
How to access Wi-Fi
If your organisation is approved
If your organisation is already approved for PSN Guest Wi-Fi access:
First-time users
- Register as a new user to create your own account.
- Verify your account.
- Connect to the PSNG network using your provided username and password.
Returning users
Simply log in with your username and password to connect to the PSNG network.
If your organisation is not approved
If your organisation is not yet approved for PSN Guest Wi-Fi access:
- You can create your Wi-Fi account using the Self Service Portal and register as a new user. After registering as a user, you’ll be redirected to register your organisation. Note: email addresses for the Queensland Bar Association (qld.bar.asn.au) have been pre-approved.
As internet access is required to create the account, you should create it on a device where you already have internet access. Once you’ve created the account, and if you intend to use the Wi-Fi account when court is sitting, you should attend the relevant courthouse ahead of time to test the service.
- Once approved (usually within three business days), others in your organisation can create accounts (see steps in the section above).
If you’re a self-represented litigant
If you’re a self-represented litigant or don't have a registered organisation email address and don't have sufficient data on your own device or a provider:
- Visit the courthouse registry with photo ID (e.g. driver’s licence) and explain why you need PSN Guest Wi-Fi access.
- If approved, you’ll get a temporary username and password valid for 35 calendar days.
No technical support
The PSN Guest Wi-Fi service is provided ‘as-is’, with no technical support. It is not a service that is administered by the Department of Justice.
Test the Wi-Fi before your court date to ensure it works.
You’re responsible for:
- making sure your device can connect
- fixing any compatibility issues.
Apple devices
If you use Safari on an Apple device, turn off private browsing to access the PSN Guest Wi-Fi.
