If you’re an adult defendant on bail in Queensland, you can receive SMS reminders to help you remember your upcoming Magistrates Court appearance.

To sign up, simply provide your mobile phone number to the police or court staff.

You’ll get two text-message reminders before your court date.

This will help you avoid missing court and the potential consequences, such as arrest, a fine, or imprisonment.

When you’ll get the reminders

If you’ve provided your mobile phone number, you’ll receive:

ReminderWhen
First5 days before your court date
Second1 day before your court date

What the reminders will tell you:

Each SMS will include:

  • your file reference number
  • the court location
  • the date and time of your court appearance.

If you don’t get a reminder

If you don’t get a text-message reminder, you still must go to court.

You might not get a reminder if:

  • you’ve changed your mobile phone number and haven’t updated the court registry
  • you’re appearing in court via videoconference.

If you’ve been excused from attending court

If you’ve been excused from attending court (in person or via videoconference), you may not receive an SMS reminder.

If your legal representative has told you they’ll appear on your behalf, confirm with them that it’s for the same matter and you don’t need to attend.

If the reminder is not meant for you

If you get a reminder that isn’t meant for you, call the court registry using the number in the SMS.

The registry will update its records so you won’t receive further reminders.

If you no longer want to receive reminders

If you don’t want to receive SMS reminders anymore, you or your legal representative must notify the court registry .
