Queensland Courts encourage people to use alternative dispute resolution (ADR) to settle disputes. ADR can save you time, money, and stress by avoiding a trial.
You can arrange private dispute resolution or use ADR services offered by the Supreme, District, or Magistrates Courts. Mediation is available in the Magistrates Court.
The two main types of ADR in Queensland Courts are:
- Case appraisal: An independent expert gives their opinion on the likely outcome of a trial.
- Mediation: A neutral third party helps both sides reach an agreement.
If ADR doesn’t resolve your dispute, you can still choose to go to trial.
