Supreme Court regions

Under section 53 of the Supreme Court of Queensland Act 1991, the Supreme Court of Queensland is divided into four regions. These regions are called the Southern Region, the Central Region, the Northern Region, and the Far Northern Region.

The area of these regions is described in schedules attached to the Supreme Court of Queensland Act 1991.

Each of the Central, Northern, and Far Northern regions have a Trial Division judge who is specifically appointed as the judge for that region.  All other judges of both the Trial Division and the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court are based in Brisbane.

The main Supreme Court Registry is in Brisbane. There are also Supreme Court registries in Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton. And there are district Supreme Court registries in any other place where the Supreme Court sits (including Toowoomba, Maryborough, Mt Isa and Longreach).
