Booking an alternative dispute resolution conference or meeting

If you’re a party to a proceeding in the Planning and Environment Court, you can request to book an appointment chaired by the ADR Registrar for:

  • a ‘without prejudice’ conference
  • a case management conference
  • a joint experts meeting.

If you wish for a private mediator to deal with your matter, the parties will need to make their own arrangements.

Before you make your request

You will need to check the availability of the ADR Registrar via the online ADR Registrar’s mediation calendar.

The calendar allows you to see the ADR Registrar’s availability online and liaise with other parties to arrange a suitable date.

Bookings are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, and are updated regularly throughout the day as bookings are made.

Please note:

The ADR Registrar’s availability can be easily determined in the calendar by selecting ‘Week’ view.

Bookings, tentative bookings and days reserved for locations outside of Brisbane are clearly marked in the calendar.

There are usually two conferences each business day, starting at 10am and 2pm, with 2.5 hours assigned to each conference.

If you need to, you can request a conference for longer or shorter periods and arrange to vary start times.

The ADR Registrar will travel to regional centres or locations outside of Brisbane if required.

During high-demand periods three conferences may be held per day, with start times of 9.30am, 12pm and 2.30pm. This will be shown on the calendar when available.

If you make a tentative booking it will be held for a period of time, determined by the ADR Registrar, before being cancelled.

Attendance by the parties

Parties are expected to attend a without prejudice conference chaired by the ADR Registrar in person, unless the ADR Registrar has given permission for a person or party to attend remotely by video or telephone conference.

Circumstances when the permission may be granted to attend the conference remotely are available here (PDF, 135.4 KB).

How to submit a request

To request a conference, send a booking request via email using the following recommended format. You should also attach the emails from the other parties agreeing to the mediation.
