Protocol for judicial appointments

The permanent appointment of judicial officers to the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts (including the Court of Appeal) is conducted in accordance with the “Protocol for Judicial Appointments in Queensland”.

How do I submit an expression of interest?

Eligible persons may submit an expression of interest at any time, regardless of whether there is a current vacancy or not by identifying which court jurisdiction they wish to be considered for and by providing their curriculum vitae (CV) detailing their work history, name and contact details (address and day time telephone number) to email

The CV is to be no longer than 2 pages in length.

Appointments will be made on the basis of merit. The protocol attaches suggested criteria for appointment (refer to page 3) as a judicial officer as developed by the Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration.

Expressions of interest will remain current for two years. Should your details change within this time, please ensure updated details are provided to Also after two years should you wish to continue your expression of interest, please submit a new CV and confirm the court jurisdiction you wish to be considered for.
