Volunteers in the court
Court network volunteers
Court Network for Humanity volunteers at the Brisbane Supreme and District Courts provide information, support and referral services for:- victims of crime
- people accused of crimes
- families, adults and children who attend court
- civil litigants.
These highly trained volunteers can help you by:
- providing support and information about going to court
- being with you in person on your day in court
- explaining (in person or by telephone) how the courts and legal system operate
- showing you around the court beforehand, so you can become familiar with where you have to go on the day of your court case
- providing access to a chill out zone within the courthouse
- referring you to other community services that can help you.
The volunteer service was launched at the Supreme and District Courts in December 2007 as part of the accessCourts initiative.
Court Network is a not-for-profit organisation and also provides unique court support services throughout Victoria and at the Commonwealth Law Courts in Brisbane, Queensland. Find out more>>
Testimonial
“I was horrified… I’d never been to court before. I spent most of yesterday throwing up. I needed someone to sit with me and say ‘this is what’s going to happen’. And that’s what they did. They stayed with me all day long. I was so grateful.” Female, aged 29.
One of the 95,184 ways Court Network has contributed to better courts with better outcomes.
