Minor Debt Claims
Magistrates Court - civil
The Magistrates Court can issue a minor debt claim against a defendant if:- they owe the plaintiff $7500 or less and
- it is for a fixed or agreed sum of money.
Examples of a minor debt include:
- an unpaid invoice or account
- rent arrears
- work done and/or goods supplied at the request of the defendant
- money loaned and not repaid
- wages owing
- an IOU
- dishonoured cheques.
