Magistrates Court - Coroners Court
The Coronial Counselling Service is part of Queensland Health Forensic and Scientific Services. Skilled counsellors are available to support relatives and close friends of people whose deaths are being (or have been) investigated by a coroner.Counsellors can provide support by:
- explaining the coronial process
- providing information about autopsy examinations
- providing free counselling (face to face or by telephone)
- providing support during identification and viewings
- providing information about and referrals to local support groups and services
- providing support during inquests.
The Coronial Counselling Service is based in Brisbane. However, referrals and requests for counselling are accepted from all coroners’ offices in Queensland.

I don’t think I / my relative / my friend is coping very well. What can I do?
People react to death differently and grieve in very individual ways. If you are concerned about yourself, or someone else, there are many organisations that can offer you support and advice. The Coronial Counselling Service at Queensland Health Scientific Services in Brisbane has counsellors who specialise in providing support to people affected by a death that is being investigated by a coroner. These skilled counsellors can provide free counselling and support. They can also refer you to support groups and services in your local area.
