Illicit Drug Court Diversion Program
Magistrates Court - criminal
The Illicit Drug Court Diversion Program provides many offenders with an incentive to address their drug use before they incur a criminal record. The diversion program does not decriminalise or legalise the possession or use of illicit drugs. It aims to reduce the number of people who are convicted for possessing small quantities of illicit drugs and prevent a new generation of drug users committing drug-related crimes.
This Magistrates Court program gives eligible offenders the opportunity to attend a drug assessment and education session to access information and treatment. The program is a Queensland Illicit Drug Diversion Initiative (QIDDI) funded by the Commonwealth’s National Illicit Drug Strategy.
