Legal Practitioners Tribunal
The Legal Practice Tribunal (LPT) is a disciplinary body established under the Legal Profession Act 2007 to hear and decide on disciplinary applications lodged by the Legal Services Commission (LSC).
The commission will apply to the tribunal for disciplinary action to be taken after they have received and investigated a complaint against a legal practitioner.
The tribunal will hear the evidence and decide if the legal practitioner is guilty of either unsatisfactory professional conduct or professional misconduct.
If the practitioner is found guilty, the tribunal will order an appropriate penalty which may result in the practitioner being ‘struck off’ or suspended from practicing law.
