Drug Court

Magistrates Court - Criminal
Drug Court offers some drug-dependent offenders an intensive drug rehabilitation order (IDRO) as an alternative to prison.

The court helps offenders overcome their drug dependence and associated criminal behaviour, through court-enforced and supervised drug rehabilitation treatment programs.

Drug Court sentences people who have pleaded guilty to certain drug-related offences in the Magistrates Court. Offenders must also have no outstanding charges for offences involving sexual or other types of physical violence.

Drug Courts operate in the Beenleigh, Southport, Ipswich, Townsville and Cairns Magistrates Courts.

Failure to comply with a rehabilitation order made by the Drug Court will result in the person being returned to court for sentencing.
